Malaysian girl group Dolla has been the talk of the town lately, especially when the quartet was featured on Spotify’s New York Times Square billboard last month. The girls – comprising Sabronzo, Tabby, Syasya and Angel – are following up the buzz with a virtual concert called Stay Strong Malaysia.
The live concert will be 90 minutes long and is aimed at spreading awareness as well as raising funds to purchase medical supplies for hospitals and support medical frontliners who work tirelessly battling Covid-19.
Tabby shared during a virtual press conference held Tuesday (Oct 5) that Dolla is honoured to be able to give back to the people. “We’ve always been about good causes. If you listen to the lyrics of our songs, it’s all about powerful motivation. So we really hope that in some way people can listen to our (new) song and feel motivated,” she shared, referring to the group’s new single Berani.
Sabronzo added: “For how far we’ve come, it’s all thanks to the team and our very amazing supporters.” Despite not been on tour or performing in front of a live audience, Dolla – which was formed in 2019 – remained confident that fans would be able to feel its vibe through this virtual concert. Tabby said all four members have been labelled “PKP Princesses” by fans because their debut single, Dolla Make You Wanna, was released in March 2020, amidst Malaysia’s first lockdown.
“I actually remembered when we first started, it was two days after PKP had started and it was on my birthday!” Tabby said. When asked about the group’s future plans, Syasya confirmed that Dolla will be collaborating with Malaysian singer Naim Daniel for its next project. Angel also made sure to send out an open invitation: “We are open to anyone who is willing to collab with Dolla.” Tabby added that the group is very experimental when it comes to its music and jokingly teased: “A trap song with K-Clique maybe?” Dolla says it will perform four singles as well as a cover at the upcoming virtual concert.
Hosted by radio and social media personality Fiqrie, the show will also include Q&A sessions where fans can get their questions answered by the girls. Dolla’s Stay Strong Malaysia happens on Oct 30 at 8pm on Facebook, Instagram and Bigo.
